Your first step into financial planning
Maybe you have had a niggling thought at the back of your mind that at some point you may need to start making financial plans for the future?
Pensions; why do you need to understand about pensions?
Does the whole thought of making financial plans for the future just leave you confused and not knowing where to start?
It can be difficult to understand the benefits of financial products & justify the cost.
I asked a young family at their first ever financial review for their reasoning why they needed my advice; I asked if they would write it down for me to use for the benefit of others, this is what the mother wrote.
"So many questions!
- What financial products are right for me?
- How do you choose a financial advisor who will suit you?
- What financial planning do you need to make for your future?
- Where should I start?
- Protection for my family (Life assurance, Critical illness)
- Replacement Income (if unable to work because of ill health)
- Income when I retire (Pensions) - when should I start saving?
- Making a Will (named guardians for my children)
- Do we have the best mortgage for us?
- Can I afford to start Savings or make a small investment?
All of these questions and many more went through my head when I found out I was expecting my first child and I discovered my father who was approaching 60, had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease which is a critical illness. Both events rapidly brought home the fact that I needed to think about the future and perhaps start to put some proper financial plans in place.
Not having a financial advisor, my first concern was how to find a reputable financial advisor. A close friend had recently had a very bad experience with someone who had visited her at home, frightened her in to switching her mortgage which she didn't need to do and who had then gone on to open up policies without her permission. As you can imagine, my guard was already up before I started the search.
I didn't have to worry. I was introduced to Arthur White from Positive Solutions by one of his existing customers."
"What can I say; Arthur is a lovely, down to earth chap who speaks to his clients in a language which they understand. His no-nonsense approach to financial planning is methodical and it makes sense. He doesn't charge large fees for his time and he always recommends the best solution to suit your individual needs. What's more, as your situation changes (child number 3 will be born very soon) Arthur has always been on hand to make sure that our financial situation is looked after in the best possible way to suit our individual situation.
After a friendly chat over a cup of tea, Arthur will have a good understanding of your current situation, what protection you ideally need and what you can realistically afford. He will also advise on what you should be aiming for in the future and give you all of the information you need to make an informed decision.
Arthur takes the confusion out of financial planning so that by the end of your meeting, you will feel relaxed and confident that you are protecting your family to the best that will suit your personal circumstances. If you cannot afford the cover, then you will not be pressurised to take the cover out.
I would highly recommend Arthur to anyone who is thinking about Family Protection or planning for the future. His approach to financial advice is relaxed yet professional and informative. With Arthur, you know exactly what you are buying and the reasons why!
Don't just take my word for it; this is what his other customers say: "

"Arthur
Congratulations on a great recommendation to switch around our fund in our pensions, which have both recovered and seem to be prospering, I have just looked at the extranet and everything seems healthy. Can you remind me what our risk profile is & if you think there's merit in becoming slightly more conservative or staying as we are."
