Tides Restaurant has made a huge impact on the Christchurch restaurant scene, achieving two AA rosettes and enabling Head Chef, Andrew Gault and his highly skilled brigade to show off inspirational dishes.

Prior to arriving in Christchurch, the Head Chef of the Capitals’ Hotel Andrew Gault was the Sous Chef at the 7 star Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai. He has also held positions at St Andrews Bay Golf Resort, Gleneagles Hotel and the Michelin starred Royal Parc Hotel in Evian, France. With a broad experience and passion Andrew and his team have established the Tides Restaurant as an award winning venue for fine cuisine and are committed to continually providing innovative, wholesome menus, sourcing the very best fresh local ingredients.

Andrew and his team have been offering Christchurch something very different in dining since the hotel opened with their dishes carrying a unique slant inspired by their formidable experience in contemporary and inventive cuisine. Andrew's top tip is ‘use only the freshest ingredients and always keep an eye on the finished product’.

Located at the heart of the hotel, the restaurant has panoramic views over Christchurch wonderful River Stour. Each evening there is live music to accompany dining and the ever popular "Sunday Lunch Experience" features a glorious seafood buffet.

Lounge

Since opening in 2006, the lounge at the Captain’s Club Hotel has attracted a keen and loyal following from local residents and visitors alike and envelopes the term “all day offering”. Whether it is breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea or supper you require, then there is no better place to be.

The menu has been developed to include classic favourites such as “fish and chips” or “club sandwich” through to offering a complete range of shellfish featuring fresh crab, lobster and mussels. Indeed the “afternoon tea platter” is already renowned as a very different experience.

With all the above, complete with floor to ceiling picture windows overlooking the River Stour, this is definitely the venue in which to be seen.

The bar at the Captain’s Club Hotel has established its own identity and really is the “talk of the town”, coming alive as dusk approaches. The cocktail list, featuring classic favourites and club creations, is perfectly handled by our team of mixologists.

The Terrace - Captain's Club Hotel
The term “alfresco” should have been created especially for the Captain’s Club Hotel.

Sitting proud above the riverside promenade, its sweeping terrace running the full length of the hotel. Enjoy a glass of Pimms, share a bottle of wine, or indulge yourself with Champagne.

Choose a light meal from the lounge menu or dine from the full Tides Restaurant menu whilst sat on the terrace enjoying the view.

With the River Stour a hive of activity this is just the place to relax and “people watch”.  When the sun is shining there is no better place to be! Both of the waterside function rooms enjoy an exclusive area of the terrace. For private functions this makes a real difference.

The Captain's Club have joined forces with TV chef and cookery school owner Lesley Waters to create the ‘Captain’s Cookery Club’.
