Traditional pub in heart of Christchurch
Ye Olde Gorge Inn is the oldest inn in town and the most talked about in Dorset, dating back six hundred years to medieval times.
The pub holds years of history, grey ladies - ghosts of women who die violently for the sake of love or through the heartless actions of a family member and sumugglers stories are still present within the walls and wooden floorboards. The Ye Olde George Inn is also a legendary hideaway for priests as it has hidden away within the roof, a priest hole.
In the 17th century the pub was known as The George and Dragon and later abbreviated to The George and The George Hotel. The abbreviations misled the brewery a century ago to label the pub after the Hanoverian king, with its current title Ye Olde George Inn.
Winner of the prestigious Pub of the year award from East Dorset CAMRA, today, Ye Olde George Inn (known to locals as YOGI) is a focal point of Christchurch town centre and the flagship pub for Dorset Piddle Brewery.
