The Activity Centre in the New Forest... Experience, Learn, Develop

Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre is a safe site set in 65 acres of beautiful grounds on a hill with sea views between the villages of Burley and Bransgore in the New Forest, Hampshire.

As a registered charity (UK Youth), we are an independent, non-profit organisation, fully committed to providing fun educational and activity holidays and breaks for school and youth group residentials, fun family holidays, training and development, large events, birthday parties, school holiday Fundays and in our peak times there are drop in activity sessions for all guests to have a go on our activities (depending on availability).

We also hold many events throughout the year for the local community with our Centre open all year round to visits from any groups either for a week, weekend or just a day; no matter what age or ability.

Avon Tyrell is a Learning Outside the Classroom (LotC) approved centre.

Accommodation in the New Forest

Our accommodation is available with catered, part catered and self-catered options and our chefs can provide a selection of wonderful home cooked food catering to any dietary requirements. Groups are able to stay full board in our Grade I listed House which sleeps up to 110 and part-catered or self-catering options are available in any of our 6, 12 or 14 berth Scandinavian style lodges. We also open our 7 camping areas from March until October and for those who like to do something different in the way of camping then we have our very own small self-sufficient tipi village with chiminea and cooking/dining area.

Adventure Activities and Environmental Activities

Whether you enjoy our adventure activities, our environmental activities, or a mixture of both, all our activities are carefully reviewed by our trained staff to suit your requirements, creating your own bespoke programme to ensure a fantastic visit. Included in our adventure activities are climbing, abseiling, high and low rope challenges, archery, adventure course challenge, kayaking, canoeing, raft building and a 40ft zip wire. Some of our field study/environmental activities are bush craft, shelter building, pond dipping, art in the environment, mini beasts, pioneering, orienteering and many more.

School Holiday Fundays

Our School Holiday Fundays are very popular activity days, where parents can leave their 8-15 year olds from 8.40am and collect at 4.00pm allowing them to either work or just enjoy some free time in the knowledge their children are having lots of outdoor fun and meeting new friends.

Birthday Parties

Avon Tyrrell provides the perfect birthday party venue primarily for those aged 8+.  We can provide a range of adventurous activities, a decorated party room and a selection of party food for either 8 or 16 people and you can choose from our activity prices page which activity your child would like to do. If your child is 5+ we can tailor a party package to your needs, just contact our customer services team.

Corporate Development

Avon Tyrrell Corporate Development Days are aimed at groups looking to improve and explore team dynamics. Our development-training offers a diverse range of activities that are challenging, involving and educational. All our activity staff are highly trained and can input as much or as little as you like in the programme always offering support where needed and formal feedback at the end of each session.

Although our site is Grade II listed, we endeavour to create a fully accessible site with ramps fitted in all lodges, pathways around the site, hoists fitted at the lake and swimming pool and extra harnessing equipment for the 'at height' activities. Also provided is a good choice of specialised equipment ensuring your visit is as comfortable as possible. We also work very closely with Hampshire County Council, offering part funded Inclusion Weekends to Families based in Hampshire who have children with additional needs. These are scheduled throughout the year.
