On Friday, 3rd August 2018, famous cricketers will be raising funds for the new Macmillan Caring Locally specialist palliative care unit at Christchurch Hospital.
Famous Cricketers have been announced for Macmillan Caring Locally’s annual fundraising event. On 3rd August, cricket fans will have the opportunity to get involved in a major sporting event in aid of charity, seeing their favourite cricket icons in action.
This year, the celebrity squad includes big names from the cricket scene such as left-arm spinner Monty Panesar, who will be returning for the second consecutive year, internationally fast right-arm bowler Devon Malcolm and Gordon Greenidge MBE, a former Barbadian first-class cricketer who was one half of the famous batting pair named Greenidge-Haynes. Special guest Henry Blofeld, a retired English sports journalist and cricket commentator for Test Match Special on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra will be there to provide commentary on the match.
Raising money for Brick by Brick, the new Macmillan Unit Appeal at Christchurch Hospital, Macmillan Caring Locally are putting together an Invitation XI team who will compete against the stars. The 20/20 cricket match between The Lashings World XI and the Invitational XI will take place at the Chapel Gate in Christchurch. Admission is free, but donations would be welcomed.

Macmillan Caring Locally works in partnership with the NHS to provide specialist palliative care to patients with advanced or incurable illnesses such as cancer. They are currently running the Brick by Brick fundraising appeal, seeking to raise funds for a new Macmillan Unit at Christchurch Hospital.
