Helen's Charity

Local Resident re-Launches International Charity Auctions

Founder Helen Thomas based in Parkstone, Poole is proud to re-launch Helen's Charity Auctions. The auctions will continue to be featured on popular auction site eBay and will take place on the last day of each month. Past donations have included signed memorabilia from David Tennant, Stephen Fry and Mike Leigh.

Helen's Charity Auctions were formed in September 2010 with the central aim to raise money for the charity MS Research. Helen Thomas is a sufferer of Multiple Sclerosis and has been inspired by the lack of understanding surrounding her illness. Helen has encountered discrimination and prejudice based on a misunderstanding of her illness and wanted to stimulate change.

Helen's Charity Auctions have welcomed donations from film stars, authors and television celebrities. Bids start at 99p and come from as far afield as Canada, Italy and America. Items will now be collated into a monthly auction to be held on the last day of each month. The auctions will be re-launched in the new format on Tuesday 30th November 2010.

The re-launch looks to simplify the auction process in a way that can accommodate the increasing number of celebrity donations. Donations are set to arrive very soon from the likes of Robert Pattison, star of the film Twilight and updates can be found on Twitter, Facebook and www.helenscharityauctions.org.

Helen has come a long way in raising awareness of these symptoms in a personal way with a moving video on her website. There was also a day where Helen left her blog and website unedited in an attempt to demonstrate the amount of work that is needed to complete everyday tasks when suffering from MS. Helen explained that her illness makes activities such as typing very difficult, as her hand to eye coordination is limited making such tasks very tiring.

Helen was diagnosed with MS after suffering prolonged periods of severe symptoms and was determined to fundraise for MS charities due in part to a lack of support in the local area. Helen praises the specialist team at Poole Hospital for their excellent treatment of the illness, but comments that there is a lack of social possibilities for younger sufferers in the area.

As Helen's health deteriorated she was saddened by the idea that she would not be able to complete charity runs to fundraise. Helen's Charity Auctions is Helen's project to overcome her physical barriers and raise money for the organisations that aid the suffering of the 2.5 million MS sufferers worldwide.

Helen's Charity Auctions have chosen to support MS Research because they share the same core aim and strive to create an awareness and understanding of MS as an unpublicised illness and looks to develop potential cures for the illness by understanding the main causes of MS.
