The Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant in Westbourne celebrates over 47 years of trading this year. In fact, if you are interested in local history, you may be interested to know that The Taj Mahal was the first Indian restaurant in Bournemouth!

The Taj Mahal is a family owned restaurant and is currently managed by Mohammed, who has worked his way up through the business. The restaurant offers the perfect place in which to go for a family meal or celebration and there is a strong emphasis on family - children are made very welcome. We've often thought about introducing our children to Indian cuisine and The Taj Mahal is the ideal venue.

The menu is extensive. In fact, if we were to make one criticism, it is that there is perhaps too much to choose from. There are lots of different specials including Manager's specials, Chef's specials and Taj Mahal specials. We opted for the Manager's Specials in the end which were absolutely delicious and, as the name implies, actually dishes that had been created by Mohammed himself. And, if like us, you were stuck for choice then Mohammed and his team are more than happy to help you choose a dish that is perfect for you. Also, it's worth noting that you can have dishes cooked to whatever strength you prefer.

The Taj Mahal is on Poole Road just as you approach Westbourne from Bournemouth, so it is easily accessible. The decor is a little dated, however it has the feel of a 'traditional' Indian Restaurant and does give you a warm comfortable feeling as you walk in. This feeling is followed through by the friendly team and completed by the delicious food that is served. A trip to Bournemouth's oldest established Indian Restaurant is definitely worth putting on your list of things to do - particularly if you like Indian food as there is an enormous range of choice and curries to suit all tastes!

Overall, The Taj Mahal is what you expect a good old Indian Restaurant to be like. We had a fantastic evening with Mohammed and his team, and we would definitely return for a second visit.
