Local Estate Agent in

Property Boom
Powis Real estate agents are delighted to announce a record sales month for the month of February, agreeing sales on over £2,65million worth of property.
Managing Director Ray Powis commented: “
Our passion and dedication to our sellers is, I’m sure, the key reason for our success. This is coupled with our policy of only acting for our sellers on a sole agency basis, giving our sellers properties, the exclusivity that all desirable products deserve. The attention to detail lavished on our customers’ properties make them stand out from all of the others. In addition, colour floor plans and our custom marketing strategies, match buyers and timescales that meet our clients’ needs.
Furthermore, our pursuit of the perfect buyer for your home extends to our comprehensive advertising campaigns within printed media, which means that we do not only cater for the majority of web based customers, but also all of those people who don’t have access to modern technology. Our recent enquiries have seen a significant uplift in buyers calling from newspaper and magazine advertising.”
Ray continued by saying “
Our success has lead to us expanding the team to accommodate our busier periods.”

Christchurch Food & Wine Festival –
7 to 16 May 2010
This year’s Christchurch Food & Wine Festival, running from 7 to 16 May, will welcome the renowned Indian chef
Cyrus Todiwala, who will be giving two cookery demonstrations on Sunday 9 May, as well as Rose Elliot, Britain’s foremost vegetarian cookery writer, who will demonstrate on Saturday 8 May.
The Festival patron, TV chef Lesley Waters, will also be highlighted on Friday 7 May and again on Saturday 8 May.
In addition, the cookery demonstrations, held in the marquee in Saxon Square over the first three days of the Festival, will feature three ‘CookaFun’ sessions which will pit chefs against each other to see who can come up with the most imaginative dishes from the same ingredients. The demonstrations finish on a high note on Sunday 9 May with a ‘Bar Wars’ session in which two teams will have to recreate cocktails under the watchful eye of cocktail barman Ady Hough.
This year’s Festival promises to be even bigger and better than ever, with a wide range of stalls already booked for the International Food Market in the High Street on 8 and 9 May and a whole host of events in cafes, tea rooms and restaurants throughout the Borough during the fortnight.
The Festival programme is currently being put together and details of all events will appear on the Festival’s website at www.christchurchfoodfest.co.uk.

Building with Charity
Giving 10% to charity with 100% enthusiasm
North Dorset-based CG Pitcher and Son have a passion for local charities and working on community projects to enhance facilities and make the county a better place. Every year, they give 10% of their profit to a different Dorset charity – this year, one of the lucky charities chosen was Holwell Nursery.
CG Pitcher and Son have undertaken various internal and external works at Holwell Nursery, to improve the facilities. Karen White, Manager of Holwell Nursery commented:
"CG Pitcher & Son's support has been greatly appreciated and came as a complete surprise. We are a small charity that has to keep costs down, to be able to provide expert nursery care at affordable prices. Pitcher's help meant that we have been able to complete lots of small jobs that would have never got done otherwise."
Mark Pitcher, Director of CG Pitcher and Son, commented:
"Holwell Nursery is a "not for profit" charity which provides an extremely important resource for the North Dorset community. It is important to help the community in which we live, in whatever way we can. We heard about Holwell Nursery through one of our clients and felt it was such a deserving charity. We're working on their premises to improve the facilities, allowing for more children to attend, meaning their parents can get back into work."

Managing Director of Langtry Manor Creates Awards to Celebrate the Achievements of Dorset Business Women
Tara Howard, Managing Director of the exclusive Langtry Manor – called the best hotel in Bournemouth by The Guardian – believes successful women rarely get the recognition they deserve. So, as a further celebration of Bournemouth’s Bicentenary in 2010, Tara has created ‘The Langtry Manor Business Women Awards.
“I realised there was a need” says Tara “women often have to work harder in order to succeed in a man’s world and I feel we need to be recognised for our efforts.”
There are eleven award categories acknowledging the valuable contribution Dorset’s businesswomen make to the local economy. All categories are sponsored by female-friendly companies.
An award close to Tara’s heart is ‘Business Mother of the Year’ sponsored by the Daily Echo. The award will go to a successful woman with her own growing, exciting business who has managed to balance work with the demands and commitments of a family. It reflects Tara’s own experience building Langtry Manor into one of the best, small, privately owned destination hotels in the country.
“To succeed at both at the same time is the big challenge” says Tara “in business you feel guilty that you’re not spending enough time at work or with the children.”
Other categories include ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’, ‘New Business Award’ and Special Woman Award to someone who has overcome obstacles to succeed in business or has dedicated their business efforts to charity.
P-PR has sponsored the PR Initiative Award for the most exciting public relations campaign that proved successful for a local business.
Despite its focus on women, there is a one category which could be won by a man! ‘The Heart Award – Best Employer’ will go to the best boss or company as voted by its female employees.
Bournemouthtown.co.uk have sponsored the dot.com category.
Deadline for applications is April 1st and the finalists will be invited to the exclusive awards ceremony
dinner at Langtry Manor on May 13th.
The Lady Mayor, Councillor Beryl Baxter will be in attendance along with many other influential business women… and men!

Local Man Fights for Cash-strapped Motorists
A local man is fighting back for motorists who are constantly hit by rising costs. Chris Coles, a quality assurance manager from Bournemouth, has set up a new website after having an idea that could save motorists hundreds of pounds. The site, Cashback Highway, is offering 100% cash back and also discount voucher codes. These are offered by retailers to motorists who buy motoring-related services such as insurance, breakdown cover, finance and other goods via the site.
Chris said:
“I applied for motor insurance on a cash back website and received the commission back; it reduced the cost by £80. It made me think that this would be a huge help for all motorists and if other motoring services were added then over time people could save a great deal of money. Although there are many cashback and discount voucher code websites, it is very hard to find great deals in just one place for motorists. I think Cashback Highway addresses that."
So convinced that he could help the hard-pressed motorist, who already contribute £45 billion each year into the UK economy, Chris has ploughed his savings into developing the site. In addition to cash back and discounts, to celebrate the site’s launch, Chris is running a £1,000 prize draw for those registered by 31 March 2010. The site’s members can also choose to donate their cashback to charity. Registration is free of charge, Chris will retain the first £5 earned to cover his administrative costs but will ensure members receive a genuine 100%.
“It has taken quite a long time to get the site designed and retailers signed up but it is now ready for motorists to start saving money. It’s a one-stop-shop for motorists with more motoring-related companies signed than any other cashback site, with some exclusive deals with retailers who do not appear on any other cash back site. Cashback Highway seemed like a good name and a year after starting the project I’m thrilled it is now giving motorists the chance to fight back on costs,”
added Chris.
For full details of how to sign up and how the site works can be found at www.cashbackhighway.co.uk |

Businesses group looks forward
to the Challenges ahead
Acquiring pledges from local councils, effective collaboration, increasing membership and raising its profile are key aims for the Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch Branch of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) for the coming year. The aims were set out by David Ramsden, who was elected as the new Branch Chairman for the coming year at the recent annual general meeting.
“I am pleased and honoured to have been re-elected as chairman of the Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch Branch of the FSB and excited by the challenges of the year ahead. We have approaching 3,000 members in the conurbation and aim to gain further membership and to increase member support to the events we have planned. My fellow committee members are dedicated to the branch and are working hard to ensure we have the Accord signed and adhered to by all three authorities in our catchment area. We will also be looking for initiatives to raise the profile and media awareness of the FSB and our branch,” said Mr Ramsden.
The Small Business Engagement Accord is a new initiative which sees local councils
signing up to 14 Accord Principles which promote the importance of listening to the views
of small businesses.
“We will be working hard along with partners such as Business Link and local councils to support businesses through the recession and create economic prosperity in our region. As always, the branch officers and I are working to help improve skills by working with the Education Business Partnership and support the apprenticeship schemes fro
m our colleges. 2010 is pushing forward using the lessons learned in 2009.”

Safe Holiday Care in OFSTED registered Playclubs
Tops Day Nurseries launch their new Mini Beasts Playclub for 5 to 11-year-olds at four of their local branches.
Previously known as the Holiday Club, children at the Wimborne branch named their club as Mini Beasts and designed and created their own logo featuring butterflies, caterpillars, bumble bees and other insects as a part of the logo and fun wear too. The separate identity has been a real hit, setting the older children apart from the toddlers and thus allows a more focused approach to age-appropriate activities.
Some of the activities include visits to museums and local attractions, curriculum activities, painting, cookery, learning dance and computer skills – to name just a few.
One of the children in attendance called Kieron says, “The best thing was making the juggling balls. I’ve had a really good time, thank you.
States Cheryl Hadland, managing director of Tops “We hope these changes will help parents to take advantage of the first class care our staff provide so they can leave their children in our safe hands, well cared for over the long Summer holidays and at other holiday times or on teacher training days.”
With a new, straightforward pricing structure, bookings can be accepted for a half-day (£15.00 for 8-1 pm or 1-6 pm) or a full day (£25.00 for 8.00 am – 6.00 pm) with a £5 per day discount for a full week. The scheme offers a wide variety of activities to suit different age groups and weather conditions including outings to local attractions such as Moors Valley Country Park, outdoor sports and indoor play. To accommodate the organisation of activities and trips bookings for Mini Beasts bookings will need to be made by 9.00 am of the Wednesday prior to the week you need either directly with the nursery or via their new website.
Tops Mini Beasts will be available for all school holidays and teacher training days from 1 June at nurseries in Bournemouth at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Wolverton Road, Boscombe, Denmark Lane, Poole and Leigh Road, Wimborne. The scheme is also to be run at Tops in Portsmouth and Taunton.
Full details can be found at the new Mini Beasts website www.minibeastsplayclub.co.uk

DAVE WELLS PROPERTIES – SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY
Dave Wells Properties, Bournemouth’s premier
provider of affordable accommodation, has announced the recent completion of the unique heath-side development for over 55s, overlooking Talbot Heath. The project, Edward House, was opened by the Mayor of Poole, Cllr Joyce Lavender, and could be one of the last in Poole so close to a Site of Special Scientific Interest, home to some of Dorset’s
rarest wildlife.
Dave said: “These new flats are beautiful and they have the most stunning views over the countryside. It’s a lovely place and, while we hope our residents will enjoy their unique location, we will impress on them the need to protect our heath for future generations.”
The homes, designed by architect Harriplan and constructed by Glossbrook are large, modern and well insulated. They have private parking and a buggy store for mobility scooters.
The current economic climate means that different types of tenants now need to be considered when constructing new developments. Dave added: “There’s a lot of demand for this type of affordable accommodation because it is becoming harder for people to survive on their pensions and maintain a house."
Established in 1985, and employing forty-five people, Dave Wells Properties takes its social responsibilities seriously and is constantly renovating and improving its housing stock to make sure people of all incomes have somewhere pleasant to live or work. Over two hundred developments are under construction at the moment. In addition to properties for the over 55s, many of these new-builds are family homes with gardens, a rare and much welcome option for affordable renting in Bournemouth. Seventy percent of tenants are self-supporting.
Dave Wells Properties is active in the community, and helped to launch The BC Club, to raise money for local charities. Its
first fundraiser for the Youth Cancer Trust at The Print Room recently raised more than £300.
The club was founded by Steve Wells of Dave Wells Properties and Jamie Hughes of the Delicious Dining Group. Steve said: “We hope this is the start of something big – it’s a chance for businessmen in the region to get together for a good night out and raise some vital funds for some very worthy causes. “The more members we attract, the more local charities will benefit.” Bournemouth businessmen launch charity club and raise funds for the Youth Cancer Trust Current members include staff from Dave Wells Properties, Bowlplex, the Delicious Dining Group, Blue Chip, NB Vehicles and Tapas Plus.
Georgina Hillman, spokesperson for the Youth Cancer Trust, said: “We are really pleased to receive support from the local corporate community – it really does make a difference to young people with cancer. Our goals are to reduce isolation and rebuild confidence and this contribution will help us continue to do that.”
The Youth Cancer Trust provides free, fun activity based holidays for young people aged 14 to 30 suffering with cancer or any malignant disease.
