–      Metropole Street Market is uniting community groups to create an Alice in Wonderland themed Yarn Bomb for its May market on 27 May in Lansdowne

Community groups joined by Metropole Market organisers and supporters will be coming together to create Lansdowne’s first Yarn Bomb on 27th May. The Yarn Bomb, which is an art installation decorating every-day street items in wool, will recreate the vibrant, eccentric and whimsical world of Alice In Wonderland.

Knitting and crochet tutors, wool shop owners and ‘knit and natter’ groups will collaborate to brighten up the urban Lansdowne area with flowers, playing cards, flamingos, mushrooms and caterpillars. People from across Wimborne, Poole, Christchurch, Southbourne and Bournemouth have already started creating the woollen decorations for the yarn bomb. Among the contributors are Dark Side of the Mirror, a local Bohemian Gothic emporium which has hosted ‘Knit and Natter’ clubs with members of the public, 5th Parkstone Brownies, and Make! Geek, a start-up social enterprise dedicated to bringing craft, costuming and cosplay skills to the community.

All the works will be labelled on the day providing further information on the groups who have made the decorations, explaining who they are and the process behind their creations.

Emma Fairthorne, a local parent helping with the yarn bomb, added:

“We’ve had a fantastic response from community groups and professional knitters who have come together for Lansdowne’s first Yarn Bomb. People from all over Dorset are creating their decorations, getting ready for a memorable market on 27th May.”

Lyn Turnbull, Metropole Market Co-Organiser, said:

“We would like to thank everyone who responded so enthusiastically to creating a Yarn Bomb for Metropole Market. The ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Yarn Bomb will be a fantastic way to add even more colour to Holdenhurst Road on the 27th May and is guaranteed to raise a smile and prompt a selfie or two!”
