AFC Bournemouth is the first UK football club to enter a partnership with FanMobile, a novel innovation whereby fans can pledge their support to their club, simply by taking out a new mobile phone contract. The official launch took place during the club’s home game against Oldham Athletic on Saturday 26th November 2011.
Rob Mitchell, commercial director of AFC Bournemouth said, “As an npower League 1 team, we rely on external sponsorship to complement our own efforts. The partnership with FanMobile means that we will be able to raise useful funds, and at the same time, our fans will get a ‘feel-good’ factor by taking part.”
FanMobile director Steve Anderson said, “We have a longstanding business heritage in Bournemouth, so are delighted that the Cherries have become the first FanMobile UK club to come on board. On launch day the club really got behind this initiative and the penalty shoot-out with the FanMobile and AFC Bournemouth mascot added an element of fun. Hits to the FanMobile website already suggest that the fans are keen to sign up.”
To sign up to FanMobile, all fans have to do is visit www.fanmobile.co.uk. There, they can view a selection of 40 handsets – including the latest smart phones – and choose a handset to be branded with their club’s colours and emblem for direct delivery. FanMobile selected Vodafone as its mobile network partner of choice, because it offers outstanding UK coverage for calls, texts and mobile broadband.
Each sign up to FanMobile generates a significant income in the form of a one-off commission payment to AFC Bournemouth. This money can then be reinvested into the club for vital needs such as new signings, fan initiatives and overall club development.
FanMobile will be sponsoring the programme at the next home game on Saturday 17th December and running a competition for six lucky winners to enjoy a VIP lunch in the Restaurant before kick-off. To enter, fans should visit www.fanmobile.co.uk.
